Why choose First Fruits Hydroponics?

There are many advantages to choosing Hydroponics. First, it is exceptionally environmentally friendly. There is no use of herbicides or pesticides as used in conventional soil based farming. Additionally, it requires only a minimal amount of water; comparatively only about 10 percent of the water consumption as used in soil based farming and therefore conserves our gradually depleting natural water resource. And because the nutrients used to grow these crops is derived from minerals from mined rock or mineral deposits, the “run-off” from feeding the plants is completely natural, consequently no toxins are recycled into soil to pollute the water tables.

Other attributes you may find of interest are that it is a much cleaner way to grow produce; it has much fewer pests, the crops have a much higher level of vitamin and mineral content and without a doubt produce much tastier fruits and vegetables.

Just by the design, we produce a higher and denser yield within a significantly smaller amount of space than traditional farming and therefore the “hand-selection” process is much less labor intensive and most folks find the process fun. Some families enjoy coming and selecting their fruits and vegetables together, sort of like a family activity.

Also, some of our items can be enjoyed when the markets, etc., no longer carry them due because they are labeled “out of season”. For instance, typically strawberry season here in Florida is pretty much over by late spring/early summer. But because of our growing environment, we can harvest them several weeks longer and the flavor never diminishes.

We have 10,000 strawberry plants and 6,000 seasonal vegetable plants.
